SMART Recovery - Adolescent Group This is a FREE group designed for adolescents and young adults, ages 14-19, for help in addiction recovery, hosted every Wednesday from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. In this approach to addiction recovery, SMART Recovery group participants will learn science-based tools to employ in addiction recovery treatment, along with self-empowerment, which will aid in dealing with the unique day-to-day challenges a recovering addict may face. With the same long-term goals as a 12-step group, SMART Recovery uses a very different approach and can stand alone as a recovery program or can also be combined with a 12-step program for those who would like to attend both. And it's FREE. Join us for a group session and see how we can help each other. For meeting location, please contact me.
Talking With Your Kids and Teens About S-E-X Ultimately, the goal of a parent is to raise a child to adulthood with strong values, convictions, and contributions to this world. So how do you do this in regards to sex, sexuality, and sexual health decision making? As uncomfortable as this topic can be for many parents, children WANT to talk with or ask questions of their parents and/or trusted adults about sex related topics. In a world where misinformation is available with a few keystrokes it is important to cultivate a family dynamic in which children and parents can talk about sexuality and personal values in an ongoing mutually respectful, and factual manner.
This is a once a week, eight week group therapy course designed to educate parents on strategies and tools to incorporate their personal values and medical facts into this ongoing dialogue with their children and teens. We will address topics in a comprehensive and holistic manner, including mental, physical, and emotional health. Topics include:
What age to provide what information.
Ways to improve communication within the family to encourage ongoing discussions.
Mental health & personal values.
Physical health/development and safety.
Emotional health & development
In order to create a trusted and more interactive group setting, groups are limited to 6 participants. Call or email for information about when the next group therapy course begins.
